Think About The Future

As our church embraces a new start and blessed future, let us not forget the Apostle Paul’s words to the Philippians “…one thing I do (it is my aspiration); forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the (supreme and heavenly) price to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.” AMP
We must understand this was not the only goal Paul had. He tried to emphasis that compared to everything he is about, his main focus and his main goal, his crowning achievement in life is to forget the hurts and disappointments of the past and forge ahead towards God’s glorious future and the destiny that awaits him.
As a body of believers we also have a destiny that must be embraced and fulfilled in Christ. The only way to discover God’s prophetic future for us is to forget what has taken place, forget the wrong done, forget our mistakes (learn from them, but move beyond them), forget our short comings, forget the former obstacles that loomed liked insurmountable mountains in our path and forge ahead.
There is an old hymn that goes “Press on it won’t be very long, until we reach that land of song. In heaven some sweet day I’m going there to stay.” I don’t know about you this morning, but my goal is to enjoy God’s grace and presence in this life and one day join the Apostle Paul in heaven. To do this I must take his advice to forget the past and press on. Won’t you join me?
